AJ SHARP

REBECCA HIDALGO

AJ SHARP, originally from Garden City, Michigan, is a dancer, choreographer, and dance teacher in NYC. She is a graduate of Oakland University with a BFA in dance. AJ has had the pleasure of working with artists such as Alexandra Beller, Lindsey Dietz-Marchant, Meg Paul, Dusan Tynek, Take Root Dance, The Median Movement, and currently with Cora Dance. She was chosen for Doug Varone’s Choreography Intensive in 2015, where she was mentored by Varone and presented a new work at 92 Y. AJ is excited to continue teaching, performing, and creating in NYC.

REBECCA HIDALGO is a multimedia creator and performer, whose work has been performed in both New York and Berlin. She graduated from NYU's Experimental Theatre Wing and has since worked as a choreographer, director, musician, video artist and performer on solo and collaborative works. She has performed at LaMama, Dixon Place, Silent Barn, The Kraine, La Luz, BAX, and Neu West Berlin, to name a few. She is the co-creator, choreographer and video artist of the Queer/LatinX Dance Performance duo "Trigger Warning", and works with the new immersive circus troupe, "Cirque du Nuit" as a dancer and aerialist.

CAYLEE SHIMIZU
she mee zoo is a one-woman show trying to make it in the big apple. That woman, Caylee Shimizu, is a San Diego native and a recent resident of Brooklyn; she danced and photographed her way to a BFA at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia under the direction of Donna Faye Burchfield. She began this solo study after moving to New York with the intention to create whimsical works that incorporate highly physical and expressive movement. She focuses on designing the space and creating compositions that charm the eye, ear, and mind. she mee zoo has performed with B.U.M.P CPR-Center for Performance Research, TRANSLATE (voices of dance) Dixon Place, and THE CREATORS COLLECTIVE’s “Ready Freddy’s?!” @ Freddy’s Bar,  “SHHHHH!” @ Rough Trade NYC & “The City is Our Playground” @ Open Source Gallery.

MARISSA BROWN is originally from the San Francisco Bay Area. She graduated from the University of California Irvine with a BFA in Dance Performance and Choreography. Her work has been shown at various venues in Southern California and in San Francisco, CA. In New York her work has been shown with the CURRENT SESSIONS, Movement Research at the Judson Church, Triskelion Arts, BAX Upstart Festival, IDACO Festival, and MNE Emerging Choreographer Series. Her work has been commissioned for The Assembly, a contemporary dance company located in Orange County, CA. As a performer she has had the pleasure to work with choreographers and companies such as Donald Mckayle, Benjamin Levy, Brice Mousset, Randy James, Sharp&Fine, The People Movers, The Park Avenue Armory, and Phantom Limb Company.

On Saturday, February 11th, we kicked off our partnership by contributing photography to Artists & Fleas' visual art group show "Rough Textures" and curating dance performance that took place all throughout the market. Check out the photos that were featured in the exhibit below and the join us again this spring on Saturday, April 22nd and Sunday, May 21st when we'll showcase new artists! 


FEBRUARY 11

RACHEL BURKEY

MARY GRACE MCNALLY

RACHEL BURKEY is an artist from a small town in Pennsylvania. She graduated from Temple University in Philadelphia where she studied Advertising – Art Direction. She is inspired by the outdoors, music and traveling. 

MARY GRACE MCNALLY grew up in Massachusetts, training at the Diane Kelley Dance Studio for sixteen years. She received her BFA in dance from the University of the Arts, under the direction of Donna Faye Burchfield. She co-produced an evening length show, Launch: Something Collective, that premiered in Philadelphia and after graduating, her work was chosen to be a part of the 2015 REVERBdance Festival and Peridance Capezio Center’s Summer Showcase in New York City. In 2012, Mary Grace was honored to receive the accolade of American Dance Awards’ National Young Choreographer of the Year, and in 2016, she was announced as American Dance Awards’ Choreographer of the Year. Her work has been performed in Paris, Antwerp, and across the United States. As a dancer, she has performed the works of Doug Varone, Netta Yerushalmy, Tommie-Waheed Evans, and Katie Swords-Thurman.
