STORYLINE
While investigating the origin of four objects, which the director inherited from an uncle of hers, she unearths fragments of her uncle’s past that strangely speak to her directly. This interweaving of past and present will provide insights into something that is deeply ours although we were unaware of it.
YAPCI RAMOS
Born in the island of Tenerife in 1977, Yapci Ramos lives and works between Barcelona, and Santa Cruz de Tenerife. She studied at Central Saint Martin’s College of Arts & Design London (CSM). Master in Documentary of Creation at Universitat Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona.
Yapci Ramos has taken part in a large number of international contemporary art biennials in the Caribbean, Latin America and Africa: 8ème Rencontres Africaines de la Photographie, Bamako (2009); II Trienal de Luanda (2010)(artist-in-residence); First Biennale Encounter of Contemporary Caribbean Art, Aruba (2012)(artist-in-residence); 7th Bienal de Sao Tomé e Príncipe (2014); V Bienal de Honduras (2014)(only non-Honduran artist); IX Bienal de Artes Visuales del Istmo Centroamericano - BAVIC, Guatemala (2014).
Her work has been shown in museums, art centers, galleries, festivals and institutions in many countries, including: CCCB Centre de Cultura Contemporánea de Barcelona, CAAM Centro Atlántico de Arte Moderno, TEA Tenerife Espacio de las Artes, DA2 de Salamanca, among many others, and solo shows at CCCT Centro Cultural de España en Tegucigalpa, Centro de Arte de La Regenta, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria or Catinca Tabacaru Gallery, NY.
SARA CATALAN
Born and raised in Barcelona, Sara Catalán lives and works between New York and Barcelona. With a background in interior and ephemeral architecture, after a nagging desire to do more impactful work she moved to New York to pursue her masters in Design For Social Innovation at the School of Visual Arts. She has continued to develop and broaden her curriculum in Central Saint Martin’s College of Arts & Design London (CSM), Centre de Cultura Contemporànea de Barcelona (CCCB), courses at the Whitney Museum and the Brooklyn Institute of Social research, and a business program at Columbia University.
She began practicing ways to implement her design skills to tackle complex social problems and acknowledged art as a powerful tool in the face of current issues. Backed by her experience at UN Women, Columbia University, various galleries and art festivals she created The Overart, a cultural hub that uses art to enable artists to become artivists. Bridging the US and Europe Sara has worked with artists in Art Basel Miami, Venice Biennale and galleries over Barcelona and Brooklyn. She is passionate about the social impact of art and believes this is the perfect time to empower artists to find their cause.
